30 Healthy Habits For Athletes

How can athletes develop good habits and start improving themselves? Well, with crazy busy schedules and always something to do, it’s never easy to focus on improving as athletes.

There can be hard times, losses and disappointments despite all the hard work. We have outlined 30 steps to help athletes learn and develop to the best version of themselves. Learning it’s a never ending learning process and elite athletes always look to improve.

30 Healthy Habits For Athletes

  1. Go to bed early (7-8 hours of sleep).
  2. Define your goals clearly and what you are trying to accomplish.
  3. Train smart before you train hard.
  4. Your time management and prioritization have to be excellent.
  5. Your experiences will help you grow.
  6. Your struggles, losses and disappointments will only make you stronger.
  7. Always put the team first.
  8. Eat healthy, practice low sugar and low refined carbohydrate diet while you focus more on eating fruits and vegetables.
  9. Drink lots of water and always hydrate yourself accordingly.
  10. Be active, do cardio, lift weights and mediate so you not only keep a healthy body but a healthy mind as well.
  11. Listen more than you talk especially to your coaches, teachers and parents. I know it can be hard but I am sure you can do it.
  12. Ask coaches for feedback and improve on your weaknesses.
  13. Don’t ever complain, just work harder.
  14. Laugh often and surround yourself with positive minded people.
  15. Celebrate small goals, laugh for no reason and be the best possible teammate you can be.
  16. Respect everyone including yourself, your opponents, referees, opponents’  parents and coaches.
  17. Don’t be afraid to take risks and fail.
  18. Focus on the present and on what you can control.
  19. Your image and identity are important so build them accordingly.
  20. Every challenge is an opportunity to improve and get better.
  21. Trust your gut and take that shot.
  22. Encourage your teammates to keep on trying after their failures and tell them that everything will work out.
  23. Get comfortable with discomfort especially at training.
  24. Treat everyone the same way as you would like to be treated.
  25. Don’t judge anyone around you because you don’t know their story.
  26. Understand the rules and know the consequences.
  27. Going early to practice or games will count as being on time.
  28. Stay humble and focus on your goals with persistence and clarity.
  29. Never compare yourself with other players.
  30. Forgive others and most importantly forgive yourself as time is way to important to be wasted on that.

Apply those tips to your daily routine and you will see an exponential growth over time. Those habits will quickly propel your growth on and off the field and you’ll quickly turn into a great example. Design your life the way that makes you happy, keeps you healthy and you enjoy doing it without anyone pushing you to do so. Good luck and stay active during your days off.
