Aymeric Laporte: Manchester City defender has surgery on right knee

Please let us know whether you agree. Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has had surgery on his knee at Barcelona after being hauled off in the 4-0 win over Brighton. Laporte damaged his cartilage and lateral meniscus in a struggle with Brighton defender Adam Webster. The operation has been successful but City have not given an indication of the length of time the 25-year-old will be outside. Laporte made 35 league appearances last season with Bernardo Silva the sole City outfield player to play more. The injury ruled him after he was called up by coach Didier Deschamps for its Euro 2020 qualifiers from Andorra and Albania. Laporte’s shortage leaves City with John Stones and just Nicolas Otamendi as defenders after Vincent Kompany’s death to become player-manager of Anderlecht at the summer.
