As coaches and parents we always want what’s best for our players. Sometimes, we tend to forget that playing sports creates a great environment for our players where they can learn lifetime values. Players should always be encouraged on how to take risks, how to fail and how to get up and try again till they succeed. Those are the big rewards that make the difference when those athletes fully integrate themselves in the society and working environmnet.
Sports is a different way of life and life is a serious of challenge and disappointments where the only survivors are those who pick themselves up and try again till they make it.
I can’t stress enough that in sports we need to encourage all players to try anything without fear, experience it and quickly learn from it. As coaches we need to remain calm and tell our players to always work hard and that’s OK to lose a game. It’s normal and it’s part of life. Those experiences will only make us stronger and more prepared for the bigger challenges that life will throw at us.
Elite athletes are not afraid of trying hard every time and they don’t care of they fail because they will keep on training till they will succeed.
When we compete and lose a game, we can learn a book from it. When we win, we tend not to focus on the mistakes we made because we are to blind sided by our temporary accomplishment. Of course, who doesn’t want to win. But there are many players who would rather lose if they get the chance to play. If the team wins and a certain player doesn’t play much, I am not sure how happy s/he will be. That’s called development and great coaches of significance stick to that philosophy because the trophies are not as important to them as developing the player’s character.
A player’s sports journey is relatively short but the lessons last a lifetime. So as coaches and parents it’ sour job to constantly get educated and teach our players the best possible lessons and tell them the truth no matter how much it hurts. That’s what will make our players ready for the real world.
